Hence she sought admission into the h?FJaminalion of the abdomen.--An irregular, stony hard median, mobile tumour with nodules on the sides and well defined borders extending from the pubes upwards to about midway between the umbilicus and ensiform cartilage* Vaginal examination.?Cervix hardisli, tumour can be felt in the posterior and lateral fornices. Sound passes into the uterus up to the bend. The tumour moves independent of the uterus though tapping the cervix gives it a movement. Operation.?Incision in the median line?peritoneum found slightly thickened. Tumour was in the peritoneal cavity moored by some stretched adhesions. Tumour was a calcified foetus of about 8 months. The right tube had a diameter of about an inch, ruptured and adherent to the side of the uterus. The right ovary was cystic and fibrosed. Both these were removed. The left tube was slightly dilated and a tiny little cyst was present in the left ovary. Description of the Lithopoedian.?The whole foetus is calcified, measures 7 inches in length, and weighs 36 oz. The foetal mass is covered with a membrane and different parts can be made out. Head is distorted, flattened from before backwards, flexed on the trunk, and is covered with some hairs. Eyes, mouth, and right ear are visible. Left ear is covered by the limbs. Nose is flattened. Right upper extremity is flexed at the wrist and the elbow and lies by the side of the head, the fingers and nails can be made out but soft parts are missing from the upper arm. Left upper extremity lies by the side of the chest in a position of flexion and the soft parts can be made out. Thorax is well shaped and the abdomen is distended. Right lower extremity is flexed at the hip and knee and lies across the abdomen with foot and toes in extension. The left lower extremity flexed at hip and ankle and extended at the knee lies by the side of the trunk and head. The sex cannot be made out.
